Ironman South Africa, Nelson Mandela Bay, Port
Elizabeth, 13.04.2008
Roll on race
day! The journey to Ironman SA started in January, after a good six-month break
from hard training. I was fortunate to have time to train in Cyprus, in the
relatively warm European winter weather. Being based in Italy for the previous
months meant that I was frustrated by cold, wet weather, experiencing almost
daily sub-zero training temperatures.

Championships
The only member of the Akrotiri, K1

member Roy Brunning. Competing against a very strong field
in the 5km run – 20km bike – 5km run event, Roy finished a
very creditable 6th place overall.

The first Duathlon and
beyond......
K1
Triathlon Club, RAF Akrotiri, started its season with a
short sprint Duathlon on Sunday 28.01.07. The race and run
discipline involves 3km run-15km bike -3km run starting at
the club and biking along Beach Road to the SIF Garage and
back to the club again. Although the first race had a small
competitive field it attracted some athletes new to
Duathlon. >>>more

Tracey Stratton was
competing for the first time and reflected on the race and
said," This was a brilliant experience with a challenging
but not overwhelming course. The best thing is the support
and encouragement that you get from everyone competing.
Before the race everyone was very welcoming giving you tips
on the transition between the disciplines. I have now set
myself a personal goal on improving my time and fitness and
I will defiantly do it again."

Dear K1 Triathlon Club Chairman,
I am writing on behalf of Home-Start to express our sincere
thanks to you for the kind donation of C£400.00 that you
recently made to us.
I would also like to thank you on behalf of the families
which Home-Start supports, as all proceeds and donations
made to us are used to benefit them. Your donation really
does help us to make a difference and part of this was used
to fund a Children’s Christmas party for the Home-Start
families.
Once again, many thanks to you and your club members, your
generosity to us is very much appreciated.

AGM
22 November 2006
The AGM was held in the new FDS building on RAF
Akrotiri. The number of members attending was the best that this member
had seen.
The matters arising from the meeting, the names
and posts of new and existing committee members, plus the schedule for the 2007
races will be posted on the web site as soon as the minutes have been completed.

CyTriFed
International
15 October 2006
Held on Sunday, 15
October this event was organised (superbly, as always) by
Cyprus Triathlon Federation, with a detailed race briefing
and even a tour of the course provided the day before. Free
hotel accommodation was offered to competitors from abroad,
there was no race fee, and there was a free lunch
afterwards.
The race took place
in the centre of Limassol, along the seafront, on a course
that was car-free (or virtually so, apart from the odd
church-goer, despite the best efforts of police and
marshals). In addition to the many CyTriFed marshals
